As an established new home builder in St. Louis, Rolwes Company has been fortunate enough to work with several charitable organizations over the years. We see this as both a duty and an honor to give back to our community in a way that can really help those in need. Our latest opportunity to give back to St. Louis came through the Make A Wish Foundation. The Make A Wish Foundation grants a wish to thousands of children diagnosed with a critical illness each and every year.
The connection between Make A Wish and Rolwes Company started back in October of 2018. A member of our team, Seth Landon, knew a member of the local Make A Wish group and a conversation started about how Rolwes Company could get involved. There happened to be a young man named Finely who lived in Lake St. Louis near one of our new home communities. Finnley has a heart illness known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.
Seth learned that Finnley loves his cars and imagining that he is a mechanic and repairing them. He also discovered that Finnley’s collection and vehicle size was outgrowing the space that was being used for his “work.” Once Seth brought this information to the whole team at Rolwes Company, we knew what we needed to do.
As one of the best new residential homebuilders in St. Louis, we quickly figured out that we need to build Finnley his own garage to store and work on his cars. After all, we build homes each and every day so we felt that building Finnley’s Garage was going to be a fitting effort on our behalf to grant his Wish.
Seth and another member of our team, Ed Zigarowicz, coordinated a time to meet with Finnley’s mom while the little guy was at school. We wanted this to be as much of a surprise as possible. Finnley’s mom showed our team where he was currently working on his vehicles, his room with his favorite colors and the yard where we were intending on building Finnley’s Garage. Seth and Ed quickly identified the best space for the garage and went to work on the details.
A plan was drawn up by an architect and fine tuned based upon comments from Finnley’s family and our team. It was decided that we would match the home as best as possible, but still have some unique features to the garage.
Once the design was agreed upon, the Rolwes team began reaching out to our trade partners for help on turning the idea of Finnley’s garage into a reality. We were overwhelmed with generous support and eagerness that our inquiries returned. There was not a single no from any trade partner we asked. In fact, the exact opposite. They wanted to know if they could do more.
Seth stepped up and took the lead for Rolwes Company. He organized all of the material deliveries and workforce necessary to construct Finnley’s Garage. While there were certainly some weather delays this winter and spring, once the project was able to start, it rolled on quickly and Rolwes Company delivered Finnley’s Wish on May 10, 2019. In addition to the garage, a new vehicle was added to Finnley’s collection an electric 4-wheeler.
In addition to this effort, Rolwes Company wanted to continue to give back during the month of May. So, for every new residential home built in St. Louis, Rolwes Company is donating $1000 to Make A Wish for their efforts in helping the Finnley’s of the world.
Rolwes Company cannot thank our trade partners enough for helping us make Finnley’s Wish come true. Everyone took time out of their busy new residential home building schedules to ensure this came to fruition. Below are the people and companies that made this possible:
