Mardi Gras Celebrations
If you’re in looking for a Mardi Gras option that’s suitable for the whole family, and you missed the Pet Parade, don’t despair. You can bring your entire krewe to Morpho Mardi Gras: Bugs, Butterflies and Beads at the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House in Chesterfield. Make a masquerade mask, enjoy Bugs on Parade, and be surrounded by clouds of blue with over 1500 Blue Morphos in free flight. The good times roll Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00-4:00, so don’t miss out.
In or Near St. Charles County
If dancing and dinner are more your style, gather your friends and grab tickets for the Fat Friday Cajun Dinner Dance at Incarnate Word in Chesterfield on Friday, March 1. Chow down on gumbo, jambalaya, boiled shrimp, and other Cajun Delights and enjoy dancing after dinner. Dress is casual and prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, Best Mask, etc. Reserve a table of 8 and compete for the Best Table Decoration Prize
If Mardi Gras just isn’t the same without a Hurricane, head out to Old Town Smokehouse in Wentzville on Saturday, March 2 from 11-11 for Jambalaya and a Fresh Crawfish Boil with Hurricane, Beer, and Shot specials. There will be live music all day including Richie Darling and the Diamond Cut Blues Band and Matt Wynn. A heated tent will keep you comfy all day. Costumes are welcomed and encouraged, so break out those beads and boas.

If you’re located further south, never fear. Your Homebuilder in St. Louis and Jeffco has found Mardi Gras offerings closer to home. Iron Barley’s High Hog Ridge in High Ridge has several options for party people in Jefferson County. They open at 7:00am on Saturday, March 2 for a breakfast buffet, followed by a lunch buffet and dinner specials. Live music starts at noon, so make a day of it! If you are interested in the big gig in Soulard, there’s even a shuttle to help you avoid all the traffic and parking issues.
And of course, JeffCo’s favorite Cajun connection Taytros is hosting their 9th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration on Saturday, March 2 from 2:00-11:00 in their new, much larger location in Festus. The party is inside and out with a special Mardi Gras menu and live music all day. The party is free, but VIP seats are available.
St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations

Kick off the holiday and the kids involved by participating in the 2nd Annual Chesterfield Shamrock & Lil’ Leprechaun Run at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex on Saturday, March 9. Adults and Teens can run the 5K or 10K, while kids 12 and under can pick up a medal running a short course loop.
If running is not your thing, or even if it is, March is the perfect time to try out a new Irish libation, with workshops and tasting offered at several area location. On Tuesday, March 12 enjoy the Irish Whiskey Workshop at Cork & Barrell in St. Peters. Resident Mixologist, James Nahm will take you on a journey through Ireland and the history of its Whiskey. Get your tickets to taste five different whiskeys, enjoy traditional Irish hors d’oeuvres, and even play an Irish game. Then on Wednesday, March 12, James moves on to the Irish Beer Workshop at 909 Public House in Wentzville. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and learn the history of Irish beers at this informative tasting workshop. You might even bump into some of your friendly Homebuilders from Wentzville or St. Louis!
Celebrate the luckiest time of the year on Saturday, March 9 at Cedar Lake Cellar in Wright City. The Shamrock Shindig in the Barrel Room will feature Irish music from Millennium DJ, festive drinks, and lots of green! Enjoy fire pits and a photo booth and dress to impress for the costume contest. Green wine slushies, green beer and various Irish appetizers will be available for purchase. The event is free, but tickets are required.
If you’re all about the parade and don’t want to drive to Dogtown, check out the Shamrock Run and Parade in Cottleville on Saturday, March 16. The 7K Shamrock Run begins at 8:00am in front of the Fire Truck at 1385 Motherhead. There is also a 2-Mile fun run option that is untimed and starts and ends in the same location. You can register for the run here.
The Shamrock Parade will begin at noon and run for approximately two hours. The route runs down Highway N from Warren Elementary to Francis Howell Central High School. There will be approximately 100 floats & walking groups. Food/beverage coolers, chairs, and other portable items are welcome. Families with young children may find the portion of Highway N near the high school to be more controlled. Parking and shuttles are available.

Join your friends on Thursday, March 14 for an Irish Whiskey Tasting and 4-course Meal at The Dew Drop Inn in Bloomsdale. Patrick Koetting, Certified Specialist in Spirits, will be discussing the featured pairings with each course, making the evening tasty, entertaining, and educational.
